Health Coverage for Workers with Disabilities (HCWD)

What it Covers

If you get Health Coverage for Workers with Disabilities (HCWD), it will pay for a broad range of medical services. If you’re not sure if a particular service is covered by HCWD, or if you need prior authorization, ask your doctor or your HCWD managed care program.

Here is a list of the main services that HCWD provides:

  • Alcohol and drug treatment
  • Ambulance services
  • Behavioral health services
  • Chiropractic care
  • Doctor/clinic visits
  • Emergency room care (ER)
  • Family planning services
  • Home health care
  • Hospice care
  • Hospital services (inpatient and outpatient)
  • Immunizations and vaccines
  • Lab and X-rays
  • Medical equipment
  • Non-emergency medical transportation
  • Nursing facility services
  • Physical therapy
  • Pregnancy related services
  • Prescriptions and medication management
  • Transplants and related services

For children under age 21, HCWD also provides:

  • Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnosis, and Treatment (EPSDT) services
  • Dental screening and treatment
  • Vision exams and glasses
  • Hearing exams and hearing aids

Depending on your circumstances, HCWD may cover some long-term care services, including nursing homes. Contact your local Department of Social Services (DSS) office for more information.
