Which experts you need to contact depends on your situation, your benefits, and the questions you have.

Employment

• Call or visit the Employment and Independence for People with Disabilities (EIPD) office near you.
• If you are blind, contact the Division of Services for the Blind.
• Call or visit the NCWorks Career Center near you.
• If you get SSI or SSDI benefits, call the Ticket to Work Help Line at 1-866-968-7842 or 1-866-833-2967 (TTY).

Social Security Disability Benefits

• Call the Social Security Administration (SSA) at 1-800-772-1213 or 1-800-325-0778 (TTY) or go to your local Social Security office.

To understand how work affects Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI), call the Ticket to Work Help Line at 1-866-968-7842 or 1-866-833-2967 (TTY). Depending on where you live in North Carolina, they can refer you to free benefits planning services from:

NC Medicaid

• Get help with NC Medicaid by calling 1-888-245-0179.
• Contact your local Department of Social Services (DSS) office.
• Get local help from HealthCare.gov.

Medicare

• Call Medicare at 1-800-633-4227 or 1-877-486-2048 (TTY).
• Call the Seniors' Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP) at 1-855-408-1212.

Getting Help with Other Types of Benefits

• For state benefits like Work First and Food and Nutrition Services (FNS) , contact your local Department of Social Services (DSS) office.
• For housing benefits like Section 8 or public housing, contact public housing authorities (PHAs).
• For other disability-related questions, benefits, or peer support, contact a Center for Independent Living.
